Java DownloadJava Download - Java is used in a wide variety of platforms spanning from embedded devices and cell phones to enterprise servers. Here you'll find Java downloads, Java games, Java scripts, Sun Java and Java Virtual Machine.

A Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is not included with Windows XP. However, the Java download Windows XP Service Pack 1 which includes Microsoft's JVM or Sun's own JVM are available to download.

The original release of Windows XP did not ship with a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). This is software that enables users to run applications written in Java, the programming language created by Sun Microsystems. The omission of a JVM was made as a result of a legal dispute between Microsoft and Sun Microsystems and its settlement in January 2001. Sun had accused Microsoft of distributing a version of Java that was not compatible with Sun's.

Under the settlement, Microsoft stopped development of its own JVM (which was integrated in previous Windows OS) and has gradually phased out the software. Removing it from Windows XP was a step toward discontinuing the product. Although consumers who buy Windows XP do not get a JVM with the operating system, Microsoft are granted the rights under their license to perform security updates to, and distribute their JVM for a limited period.

GOOGLE SUCKS
Why? Because they blocked this site without proper reason and after about one year of negotiation still have not given a proper reason nor proper instructions of how to fix any problems

Microsoft JavaMicrosoft Java - The Microsoft Java Machine is no longer included as part of Windows operating systems due to legal issues with Sun Microsystems. However, Microsoft's JVM is still supported by Microsoft until December 31st 2007.

Microsoft's way of distributing their JVM was through the Java download Windows XP Service Pack 1 (XP SP1) which also fixes a range of bugs in Windows XP. Although downloading the Windows XP Service Pack 1 is a solution to getting a Java Virtual Machine for Windows XP, in technical terms Microsoft's Java download Windows XP is now extremely old due to its forced discontinued development.

As part of the settlement Microsoft and Sun came to a joint decision to allow Microsoft to continue supporting and fixing security problems in Microsoft's JVM until September 2004 (now extended to December 31, 2007). However, this arrangement does not extend to software development and has led to some compatibility problems between Microsoft's JVM and more recent Java software.

This has led to many people deciding to turn to Sun's own JVM. Their Java download Windows XP compatible JVM can be downloaded using the link above. Unless you need the Microsoft version for compatibility with code that uses proprietary Microsoft Java extensions conventional wisdom is that you should use Sun's Java download Windows XP compatible JVM.
